Mardy - Excellent post. The acquisition of VLSI by Philips is looking better every day, in its own right. The added benefits to Wi-LAN are obvious, and these links tend to confirm the wisdom of Wi-LAN's choice.
I was particularly impressed by the BiCMOS power amp.
While 1 W of RF output might be OK for a cell phone, wouldn't that be a little light for the transceiver contemplated eventually in a wireless WAN?
What sort of RF power output do you envisage as being adequate for a typical user wirelessly (?) surfing the net in a WOFDM WAN?
