Interesting article, Jill, and an interesting site as well. I was not aware of it, but I've bookmarked it.
Here on Florida'a west coast, we've been seeing a whole series of Sprint ads clearly featuring QCOM phones with internet capabilities. The one that caught me shows two men, one delivering the phone to the other who lists it's capabilities, then asks, "Are they ready for this?" to which the other replies, "Some are. But others will follow." Fade to Sprint logo. How widely have these ads been appearing?
Also, Jill, your story of your dark ages phone reminds me of the lowly calculator....from the early Bowmar to Casio's with three place memory, radians, perpetual calander and clock built in...a hit with pilots, then to TI's programmable device, and now to my HP19IIB with alpha-numeric keypads and all kinds of built in business related functions, 9 place memory, etc, etc.
I learned of a wireless application (in development) the other day that intrigued me. A flat panel, flexible enough to be rolled up, large enough to serve as a sign, in a chain of stores....used to announce sale items system wide, HQ can change all the signs simultaneously. Supposedly it's coming to a Walmart near you. |
