Did you learn nothing in history? Nothing about the people who came to America, seeking religious freedom from state-run churches? Seeking religious freedom from religious persecution? Did you learn nothing at all about that?
How sad. All the poor Protestants in France, killed on St. Bartholomew's Day, forgotten. All the poor Catholics in Ireland, killed by Cromwell, forgotten. All the poor Baptists, burnt at the stake, forgotten. No, of course, we are enlightened now. Man no longer kills man because of religion. They aren't killing each other in Iraq, Iran, India, Pakistan, China, Bosnia, Kosovo, Ireland, because of their religions anymore, are they?
This country is a bastion of freedom because man does not kill man on the basis of religion. And the Michaels tell you that a little "friction" between sects is preferable to what we have now.
Would we be better off like Ireland, like Kosovo? I don't think so. |
