Newsbytes, Thursday, October 14, 1999 at 04:28

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, 1999 OCT 14 (NB) -- By David Frith, Computer
Daily News. Computer systems might well be crashing around it, but
Compaq Computer Australia [NYSE:CPQ] intends to see in Y2K in
style.

Compaq on Wednesday revealed it is inviting 6,000 Australian guests
to a party at the Sydney Opera House on New Years Eve.

The company will stage a competition for tickets to the event, staged
in conjunction with the Sydney Opera House Trust. While the
winners will have to pay for food and drink, entertainment, including
music and fireworks-watching, will be free.

Compaq is also calling for nominations for 20 Living Australian
Treasures - or "Compaq Community Stars" - to be announced at a
special dinner in the Opera House's Bennelong restaurant. Compaq
Australia's managing director Ian Penman will be one of the judges.
