hey gottfried,

while we're talking reboots...

simply reading a few of the more recent posts to this thread demonstrates the validity of trying a reboot to fix a prob before searching for more esoteric answers.

a couple of days ago, out of the blue, my pc stopped playing many of the sound files (wavs). when i dug around a little deeper i got messages about corrupted files, lost pathways, try reinstalling, files not found, etc. my audible mail notification was out. the wav that plays when i shut down was out. all of it. and when i tried realplayerG2, i encountered this funky 'out of memory' error that was completely foreign. i knew that was not right.

so i figured everything needed to reconfigure and rest and get squared away (now there's some techno-talk for ya, huh?). i shut it all down, waited 60 seconds (that waiting part is important, i'm told) and rebooted. bingo! all sound returned, everything running smooth as can be.

it's an easy thing to try before racking our brains. but we all knew that, right?

:)
