Found this reference on AppleInsider to the new Apple PowerBook, slated to be released in December or January. Note that this notebook is expected to obtain 8-10 hours of battery life -- primarily due to design refinements rather than a LiPoly battery. If Apple is able to get 8-10 hours of battery life out of their next notebook, it would appear that need for LiPoly is significantly reduced. Fortunately, it doesn't appear that the PC notebooks, which are the majority of the market, can accomplish anything so dramatic as Pentium processors use considerably more energy than do the Motorolla processors used by Apple. BTW, Pismo is the code name for the next Apple notebook.

************

One of the major features of Pismo that may not be so apparent at first will be extended
battery life. According to reliable Apple sources, Apple has been running the new
architectured PowerBooks in the labs since early summer, and battery life is just
outstanding due to the lower power consumption of the new architectural design. It's
believed that with the debut of these units, Apple will be touting 8-10 hours of real-world
use per battery.
