Freewest and Greater Lenora Drill Results Matawin Gold
Belt, Ontario

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--Freewest Resources Canada Inc. and Greater
Lenora Resources Corporation are pleased to announce the results
of an initial 3-hole drill program undertaken on the Bylund
property located in the Matawin gold belt, near Thunder Bay,
Ontario. The property is situated in the Dawson Road Lots about
700 metres south of a new, significant gold occurrence made by
Battle Mountain Gold late in 1995. Currently, the Matawin gold
belt is the focus of vigorous exploration efforts by a few major
and numerous junior companies, largely along a number of breaks'
or fault systems containing gold occurrences. Such breaks'
commonly mark the contact between Timikaming-type sediments and
Keewatin volcanics.

The drilling tested the depth extent of the Bylund occurrence,
which was recently stripped by the joint venture. The stripping
uncovered a broad, NNE-trending deformation zone within
carbonatized and silicified Timiskaming sediments. Sampling
outlined a highly anomalous zone up to 19 metres wide assaying
greater than 1.0 g/t Au with individual assays returning 6.9, 14.6
and 5.6 g/t Au respectively. Drill Results are as follows:

/T/

Drill Hole No. Grade (g/t Au) Width (m) Vertical Depth (m)

B-97-1 1.1 6.6 98.0

B-97-2 20.3 1.8 39.6
2.81 2.3 51.8

B-97-3 0.54 1.4 54.8

/T/

All 3 of the holes intersected anomalous gold values ranging from
0.1 to 0.5 g/t enveloping the higher grade sections over widths of
up to 15 metres. The drilling in conjunction with the stripping
has confirmed a new theory that NNE-trending shear-fractures carry
the highest gold values. Such structures are completely open
along strike as well as at depth. A new showing situated 130
metres away from the Bylund occurrence assays up to 2.81 g/t Au.

A number of additional potentially auriferous NNE-trending
structures on the property will be covered by an IP survey. These
structures will be trenched and drilled this field season.
Additional drilling will also be undertaken at the Bylund
occurrence to add to the depth and strike extent of mineralization
encountered to date.
