jp, I've discovered that a lot of Northeastern N.M. land is owned by 2 guys. Henry Singleton, who recently died, owned about 1 million acres, and Ted Turner bought a huge chunk,. I think that was 600,000 acres or so.
In some of those N.M. areas, it's not a bad idea to take along a GPS. I was once in an area NW of Santa Fe, on one of those wooded side roads that soon turned to gravel, and I didn't see a human again for over 2 hours. I ran into several forks in the road, and had no idea which one would take me back to civilization. I finally found my way out with about 2 gallons of gas left, and about 1/2 hour of daylight.
