<< Thanks Eric. I was thinking of private aviation flights, I don't fly commercial very often, but log lots of private hours >>

Me, only commercial. I'll ask a friend who has logged several thousand hours in his Mooney (flew into a local grass strip near me recently to do some Chesapeake Bay cruising). He is a wireless data guru working for a major GSM carrier and one of the most wired guys I know.

<< laptop ... still so slow ... I would think faster modems would be fairly standard by now >>

They or their wireline V.90 modems are reasonably fast. Wireless data service is slow. This is why we invest in Q and concern ourselves with higher speed wireless data services <g>.

As for disconnected devices I just connect them. Darned if you'll catch me surfing on a mobile handset for awhile, perhaps ever. MMI getting better but still sucks, IMO.
