Hammers are kind of interesting... so...personal...

My Dad always used a leather-bound Estwing.. Can't really remember seeing him use any other kind. When I look at one of those hammers, I immediately think of my Dad.. (all good memories BTW)...

When I was helping him build cottages and stuff, that's the hammer I learned to work with....

Yep, the handle is thin, but it's the balance of it that is so cool... Can work all day framing or shingling and not feel tired... hand just fits right into that spot on the leather handle.... It's capable of this incredible "arc of power" that will drive a nail clean into a 2x4 with a couple of sharp blows... Gotta have good aim though... no room for error..

I have one of the smaller weight hammers... can't remember how many ounces, but it's probably the smallest that Estwing makes... Mr. Croc just HATES it... says it's too small to hit nail heads...says it's no good for driving spikes (untrue). He prefers a big fat ash-handled sucker with a real thumb-smasher of a head...

Once in awhile he grabs my hammer when he doesn't feel like finding his own... Usually bends the first nail that he hits.... Then he'll usually cuss at my hammer as he shakes it a couple of times... shouting something like... "What a DUMB hammer!!....I don't know how you can STAND using that DAMNED hammer!!"...

As he hands it back to me, I just smile and reply....

"My aim is true..." ;-}>
