That was JMO, (just my opinion.)
I am sure others will have different opinions.

I am not sure about the exact percentage, but I think about 80% of so called star fund managers cannot beat the Index.

I like Peter Lynch's advice:
Look arounds you and see who is doing a good business and invest in that company.
If Burger King is always crowded but if MacDonald is slow most of the time, maybe it is time to buy some BK's stock.
(I don't even know if BK is a public compnay, just an example)

Every time you go to the mall, you see a Gap store filled with people then you'll might consider invest some in that stock.
I think investment is just a common sense...
Just by looking around our neighbor, we can find many good investment candidates.
