Morality has to do with responsibility, duty, and justice. We must hold people accountable for their actions, and, even when they are subject to bad luck, expect them actively to seek to improve their circumstances insofar as it is within their power. We should afford those with hard luck help in a way that is not demoralizing, and does not encourage dependency. This is only one small part of the equation, but I figured that one may as well begin somewhere....
