Such gaps are commonly tested as support, but not filled. Does that include the weekly chart where the Stochastics have definitely rolled over? Btw, I wasn't implying that the XAU would retrace to its previous lows, but that there was a bit of consolidation to do in order to establish some semblance of short to intermediate support.
