I agree that you can never count Microsoft out but at least in the embedded field it's only chance is to come up with a more viable CE. I don't believe that with the DOJ breathing fire down it's neck, that buying it's way into the embedded OS market is a possible solution for Microsoft. That would reek of a blatant monopolistic endeavor and all kinds of red flags would sprout, not just from the DOJ but also from companies like Sun Micro and Oracle. And with the judge's decision looming, the last thing Microsoft needs is calling attention to it's nefarious ways...

As for Sun, I think their best strategy would be, and God forbid, to buy out WINd and thus give themselves the best shot at being proclaimed the King of the OS world, going into the next century.

Of course, as a WINd investor who has some very high expectations from his investment in the company, I shudder at that possibility!

In the meantime as we await Microsoft's one last attempt to topple WINd with a better Windows CE , VxWorks with every passing day, becomes ever more entrenched in this post PC era as the OS of choice...
