[orct patent on full rate splitterless?]

Hi SteveG,

the following appeared in the Globes today.. I guess that full rate splitterless announcement was not a joint announcement between alcatel and orct afterall , but "curious" synchronicity ...

and maybe an important patent for full rate splitterless is held by orct not ala... now wouldn't that be an interesting twist... maybe we're seeing a hint at an orct strategy for responding to ala's patent infringement suit.. ;)

made a quick search on orct patents, but nothing seemed relevant.. my guess is that the relevant patent has been applied for and not issued yet, or it has been issued and just isn't showing yet...

the rumors of alcatel's tech problems are interesting too..

thanks

Orckit, Alcatel Simultaneously Announce Similar New Product
By Efi Landau, Geneva

Orckit and the French company Alcatel each independently announced a new ADSL (a technology facilitating rapid transmission on copper telephony companies infrastructure) product at the Geneva Telecom Exhibition. The two products are similar.

The product is a component installed by the client between the telephone wire and the wall socket, which facilitates data and voice transmission on the same line, without interference between them. Until now, a distributor was used for this purpose, which was a source of difficulty and had to be installed by a telecommunications company. The new product reduces cost and makes installing an ADSL line simpler for the client and the operating company.

To the surprise of communications people at the exhibition, both Orckit and Alcatel each anounced a similar product at the same time, without any any coordination between them.

Last week, Alcatel filed a claim against Orckit claiming violation of its exclusive patent rights. Orckit denies the claim.

Orckit president Yitzhak Tamir told "Globes" that he does not know how both companies, considered sworn enemies in the ADSL field, each announced a similar product at the same time; he noted that Orckit held a patent for the product.
