I agree that a "fusion" would be a bad idea. The Reform Party seems to be somewhat of a magnet for assorted statists from both ends of the "spectrum". Libertarian philosophy would get lost in the wash.

I'm a registered Libertarian but not a Party member. While I agree with the fundamental principle of non-initiation of force, I don't like signing any litmus test pledges. At times, the LP tends to get hung up on esoteric minutia, to the detriment of greater mainstream acceptance, IMO.

I like Ron Paul, and to a lesser extent, Steve Forbes, especially on fiscal matters, but was greatly disappointed in both of them for supporting the "10 Commandments in public schools" initiative. That issue was hashed over pretty thoroughly on this thread and I firmly believe that any form of government mandated religious doctrine has no place in a free society, however well intentioned.
