SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Microwave
Corporation (Nasdaq: DMIC), a world leader in the design and
manufacture of microwave radios used globally in communications
networks, today announced the release of a new high-capacity
multiple Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) chip set.
Termed Velocity, the new chip set represents a major achievement
in the company's continuing R&D investment in technologies
that can enable the development of next-generation, high-
capacity and ultra-high-capacity point-to-point and point-
to-multipoint microwave radios for broadband applications.

The Velocity chip set is capable of modulations from 4 QAM
to 256 QAM and bit rates ranging from 4 Mbps to greater than
330 Mbps per radio channel. The chip set is the culmination
of several years of effort in advancing modem techniques and
silicon integration and, with a total gate size of 750,000
gates, it sets a new benchmark for high-speed commercial
wireless modem technology.

Charles Kissner, Digital Microwave Chairman and CEO
commented, "The Velocity chip set is a natural progression
for Digital Microwave Corporation, and follows the high
standard for innovation achieved with the Altium high-
capacity radio. This new technology will enable next-
generation broadband access systems with capacities of
STM-1/OC-3, multi-STM-1/OC-3 and high-capacity multiple
access systems, all within the same architecture and using
radio spectrum in the most efficient fashion.

Paul Kennard, Vice President, Corporate Marketing, continued,
"Release of the Velocity chip set is a significant event for
DMC, and it is another major step in a series of technology
initiatives that will allow us to continue to serve the
broadband access market as it develops."

Headquartered in San Jose, California, Digital Microwave
Corporation provides microwave radio solutions to connect,
enable and grow communications networks worldwide. The
Company's industry-leading broadband, medium-capacity and
low-capacity radios transport data, voice and video for
public and private networks in a wide range of global
environments. Digital Microwave Corporation brings value to a
diverse range of customers through its vast array of quality
systems, services and support.
