The problem with Dell is that its marketing strategy is not a good fit for cell phones. Most of its box sales are direct, but cell phone sales are indirect. Ideally, the buyer of the handset division should be able to expand the traditional marketing chain, compete in it, and put Qcom chips into new boxes. With respect to box makers, Compaq would be better and Hewlett Packard still better. From what I can see, HP probably has the best distribution channels because of its printers.

I would love to see a breakdown of handset sales between: carriers, computer stores, office supply stores and chain stores (Circuit City, etc.).
