Power Integrations shares soar 14 percent

NEW YORK, Oct 18 (Reuters) - Shares of Power Integrations Inc. hit a new 52-week high in early trade Monday on twice its
average daily volume, after the circuit provider said it won $32.3 million in damages in a patent infringement lawsuit it launched
against Motorola Corp. (NYSE:MOT - news)

Power Integrations climbed 12 points to 85, up from a previous high of 79-1/8 and a low of 11-7/8. Within an hour of the market open, 254,000 shares had traded
hands, compared with Power Integrations' average trading volume of 106,565 a day.

Motorola shares were also up 1-5/8 to 89-5/8, still off a high of 101-3/16.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said a jury found late Friday that Motorola, the communications and technology company, willfully infringed one of Power
Integrations' patents for high-voltage power conversion integrated circuits.

Company officials were not available to say which court issued the decision. Motorola officials did not immediately return calls for comment.
