SDMI / MP3: Ease of Customer use...

If I want to BUY some music, I go into a music Store, listen to it to be sure I want it, and I BUY it. Probably on a CD.
I had to purchase equipment to play the CD.
I can take it home, play it and even tape record it (losing a little quality).
CD's are being pirated right now...
Why aren't they protected with something like SDMI RIGHT NOW?
There are laws that are finally being enforced.

Why should buying music from the Internet Store be any different?
If I don't have a Player to listen to the music, I should be able buy one which would be registered to me and also contain MY CODE.
I can still play it and tape record it.
Piracy is what they are trying to prevent.
IF the Player, registered to me, using MY CODE controlled the playback, I could not just copy the music file & give/sell it or email to anyone else. If I did, the same player, belonging to someone else would not play it properly.
This would stop piracy in it's tracks.

My point: It should be easy & painless for the customer.
If the customer is honest, which most are, NO PROBLEM.

I also think that the point made about the BIG Label companies wanting to strengthen their monopoly in the music industry is very valid.
They are virtually scalping the new artists making the scene which is not right. A new artist should be able to participate in his marketing efforts if he so desires without having a ONE-WAY type of contract.

I agree... SDMI will die because it is not good for the Customer nor the Artist.

IMHO

Joe
