Eric L: On the comment you invited, yes there is as much certainly as is possible in this flawed world full of surprises that the Q will get royalty payments from WCDMA. This has been stated time and time again by everyone from Dr J and Gregg Powers to those of us who simply try to keep up. True nothing is certain but death and taxes (and now regulation), but royalties to the Q on WCDMA is close on the certainly scale. That is my working assumption until proven otherwise - and there has been no proof otherwise.

On the progression to 3rd gen which you did such a fine job in outlining on the G&W thread, note this: 1XRTT is now "3G1XRTT" or in the longer designation " ...the new 3G 1X Radio Transmission Technology (RTT), which is expected to effectively double the voice capacity and provide peak data transmission rates up to 10 times faster than currently available....."

The fun part is the attempt by Sprint PCS and Lucent to wrap the mantle of 3rd gen around 1XRTT which we all know is an enhancement of CDMA One. Will be interesting to see if Lucent et al can get away with the idea that 1XRTT is not only the first step toward 3rd gen CDMA 2000 but phase I of it.

Comment?

PS I am using this thread since IMO the discussion of data paths to 3rd gen is probably more appropriate here than on G&W since this is a little off pure discussion of "gorilla" characteristics even though it is a major element in the future of the gorilla Q. Do you agree?
