Quite the contrary. My knowledge of prayer is not based upon the hypothetical but
on the solid facts of reproducable data. It all started when my wife
developed an incurable and terminal condition when she was still in grad school.
We were both atheist at the time.
To make a long story short, my wife called upon God with a simple prayer
and He answer with a mighty healing and a vision. This occured many years
ago and we have experienced many miracles since then. This is the kind
of experience that some of you guys need--a St. Thomas type of experience
for those with an inferior aptitude for faith.

That is a difficult question to answer. I have pondered it myself but
lack real uderstanding on the subject.

Suffering is a consequence of man's rebellion and sin. If a machine
that man buuilds fails and breaksdown because of no oil on the bearings
or other lack of proper maintenance, would you blame the design engineer
or would you blame the maintenance-operator. Man has failed to follow
the design engineers maintenance and operational manual and you want to blame
blame the design engineer for the failure. Bad logic. Its the typical
argument of a maintenance super that is afraid to loose his job because
of incompetence.
