Katene,

I apologize for rambling. My point is that Cisco envisions network solutions with central routering engines that doesn't provide the speed and scaleablity that switches do. In a network environment that emphasizes routers in the center with switches along the edge the only way do speed up the core is to replace the router with a faster router. In a network that utilizes switches in the center and firewall routers along the edge load sharing switches can be added to the network without replacing the core switches. This approach allows the customer to protect his investment in his network without tossing out old parts.

I hope this is a little more clear.

Thanks,

Steve
