The reason I chose DELL was precisely because of its direct business model. They, more than anyone in the PC business, have been able to maximize profit margins because of outstanding business management & their direct to user distribution. I recognize that handsets are a much lower average selling price offering but in DELL's case the handsets would be just another product similar in concept to the computer peripherals they currently sell. And, although DELL's major source of revenue is through enterprise they are definitely attempting to expand their consumer base. Handsets would definitely allow them to achieve this.

There is no rule that requires handsets to be sold through traditional retail distribution channels unless, of course, QCOM makes this a requirement in the sale of the division.

Food for thought - if nothing else.
