lol, c'mon, Joe, it was a little needle after last year's needles I took when you smoked us in the games. =)
Truth is, I had a friend who paid a lot of money to see last night's game. When he forked over that much money and the Red Sox were jobbed of an eighth inning drama, and were stopped of any possible comeback with a bad call at first base, then he threw his trash onto the field. His reasoning? "THAT'S WHERE THIS S*** BELONGS!" In truth, he felt like he wasn't watching baseball. He was watching garbage.
That's what he and all the fans at the game watched... garbage.
People say that the call shouldn't have mattered. Truth be told, our Red Sox are not an incredible team. They just get on these highs that can put them at that level. When you take the wind out of their sails (like Pedro coming out of game 1 in the ALDS), they can be beaten. In order for the Sox to win, everything has to go right. When something goes wrong, they fall apart. They don't have the payrolls that the Yankees or even Indians do. So they need to play with momentum. And they need to feel like the Jim Thomes and the Derek Jeters in order to beat the Jim Thomes and Derek Jeters.
I am by no means justifying what they did as a GOOD or BAD thing, but most of the stuff (almost all of it, I was told) was trash thrown onto the field. If it was just paper cups and random stuff that wouldn't hurt anyone, I say, "Good for the fans who just got ripped off by Major League Baseball."
The human element for the umpires is part of the game. So is the human element for the fans. |
