The problem isn't a "conflict" of interest but a unity of interest, which is why the SEC is like a fox being asked to guard the chickens.

Too many SEC people are tied to the big firms - brokerage or law - that benefit from the status quo. Where do they get their experience? Who hires them when they move on?

Just posted about MMs on another thread - how they are the biggest problem when it comes to shorting, etc. (see siliconinvestor.com.

Think that the old boys network will fight hard to keep their bennies -- just circumventing them is the best approach. Note all the scare talk about direct internet investing -- can't wait til there is a true buy sell system.
