Prophet,

You may have addressed this in the past, but are you aware of SNDK's strategy for competing against SmartMedia flash? Also, is there not risk that if SNDK is a manufacturer of flash, its competitors would prefer to endorse a standard for which SNDK does not receive royalties and licensing fees? Finally, would one anticipate that one version of flash memory will ultimately predominate, or do you believe CF and SM will continue to coexist?

1) The strategy to compete against SmartMedia is to convert OEM's to CF or MMC/SD. This has already been realized to a great degree.

2) If others endorse a standard other than CF or MMC/SD then obviously SNDK gets no royalties. Remember that CF and MMC are open standards and SanDisk receives no royalties for these anyway.

3) Several forms of removable flash memory will coexist in varying degrees. I see CompactFlash as extremely hot right now. I see SmartMedia fading. I see MMC/SD in the rearview mirror and closing in fast. I see microdrive as a niche player. I wish Memory Stick good luck.
