According to the article whose URL I posted earlier, the only reason DSL is being offered at all is because of AT&Ts cable strategy. The article posits that the RBOCs wouldn't have bothered about fast Internet access if they weren't being threatened by AT&Ts attempt to get around them via the coax route.
