Broadcom Corporation Adds Voice toBroadband Cable Networks with CablexChange Software October 18, 1999 03:58 AM IRVINE, Calif. and VANCOUVER, B.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 1999--
Broadcom Debuts Industry's First 4-Channel PacketCable(TM) Voice Modem Reference Design
Broadcom Corporation BRCM , a leading provider of integrated circuits enabling broadband communications to and throughout the home and business, today announced that it has launched its CablexChange(TM) software solution for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) applications. As part of this announcement, Broadcom is also introducing the industry's first 4-channel voice modem reference design based on the PacketCable specification to accelerate the deployment of devices that will enable the transmission of digital voice, fax and data packets over data networks, including the Internet.
CablexChange is an embedded software solution for Voice over IP over cable modem applications tailored for Multimedia Terminal Adapter (MTA) products. CablexChange is available today on the latest- generation Broadcom(R) BCM93310V 4-channel PacketCable(TM) voice modem reference design. Both CablexChange and the BCM93310V are designed to meet the current requirements of DOCSIS 1.1 and the emerging standards as dictated by the PacketCable working group of CableLabs(TM). CablexChange is the first of a number of planned vertical VoIP market derivatives of the Broadcom xChange(TM) OpenVoIP(TM) software suite, and is optimized for use with Broadcom's line of VoIP enabled cable modem chip sets.
"This is a strategic step in our roadmap to provide optimal hardware/software solutions for the delivery of voice over the broadband cable network," said Tim Lindenfelser, Vice President of Marketing for Broadcom. "Broadcom's BCM93310V reference design provides customers a complete end-to-end solution to deliver 4 channels of voice for packet-switched networks."
CablexChange is available immediately. It is sold as a Run-Time License for use with Broadcom VoIP-enabled chipsets with an optional Development License for customers who wish to add features to the standard product.
The BCM93310V is also available now. This complete reference design includes a DOCSIS 1.1 capable cable modem, Broadcom DOCSIS 1.0+ cable modem software and source code, a 4-channel ringing line card, a Network Controlled Signaling (NCS) Call Client that has successfully interoperated with numerous call agents, and the CablexChange software suite supporting multiple ITU vocoders.
