At Groundbreaking Price of $499, New HP Brio PC Delivers Full E-commerce Solution for Small- and Medium-sized Businesses

HP and CompuServe to Offer Further Savings with Rebates of Up to $400 for HP Brio PC Customers

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 1999-- Hewlett-Packard Company today unveiled the latest addition to its HP Brio business PC family, the HP Brio BA200 PC, with an estimated U.S. street price starting at just $499(1). HP is the first top-tier PC vendor to offer a branded business PC, with a complete e-commerce solution, for less than $500 -- delivering maximum value for small- and medium-sized businesses.

In addition, HP announced an alliance with CompuServe(TM), the value leader in Internet access and a subsidiary of America Online, Inc. (NYSE: AOL - news), to offer mail-in rebates of up to $400 on all new HP Brio PCs when customers subscribe to a term commitment to CompuServe 2000 Premier, CompuServe's full Internet access service. After this rebate, a new HP Brio PC will effectively cost customers only $99.

''Today's small businesses increasingly place high-quality PCs -- at low prices -- among their top IT requirements,'' said Jean-Jacques Ozil, HP Brio PC marketing manager for HP's Business Desktop Division. ''HP now offers the industry's first truly low-cost, branded business PC, enabling us to meet that need head-on.''

A Low-cost Business PC

At an estimated U.S. street price of just $499(1), the HP Brio BA200 PC comes fully equipped with an Intel® Celeron(TM) 433MHz processor, 32MB SDRAM, 4.3GB hard-disk drive, 40X CD-ROM drive and Microsoft® Windows® 98.

In addition, the HP Brio BA200 PC includes HP's industry-leading small-business tools, providing customers with a complete desktop solution at value prices. These tools include the HP Brio Internet Center and HP Brio Center, which together provide comprehensive Internet and e-commerce capabilities plus online support.

The new PC comes ready for Windows 2000, Microsoft's next-generation operating system, and is certified for Novell network operating systems, for easy integration into a networked environment. The price also includes award-winning HP service and support, including free 24-hour phone support and a one-year on-site limited warranty.

HP and CompuServe

HP has joined with CompuServe to offer small- and medium-sized businesses a choice of two mail-in rebate plans for HP Brio PCs. Upon subscription to CompuServe 2000 Premier for $21.95 per month, customers simply fill in a rebate application, included in the HP Brio PC box, and send it to CompuServe along with a register receipt and UPC barcode to receive their rebate. With a one-year subscription, customers receive a $100 rebate, and with three-year subscription, customers receive a $400 rebate.

''We're delighted to be working with HP to offer low-cost PCs and Internet access to small- and medium-sized business owners through the CompuServe rebate program,'' said Audrey Weil, AOL senior vice president and CompuServe's general manager. ''With the introduction of an all new CompuServe 2000 just last week, we now offer even more value for customers through seven e-mail addresses per account, a Contact List and instant messaging, an enhanced search capability, access to CompuServe's more than 30 channels of content, plus access to all of the Internet.''

This alliance with CompuServe reinforces HP's strategy of partnering with industry leaders to provide small- and medium-sized businesses with easy-to-use Internet solutions. Other partners include Prodigy Business Solutions and Trellix Corporation.

U.S. Availability

The HP Brio BA200 PC is scheduled to be available through the HP Business Store and HP resellers beginning Nov. 1.

Beginning immediately, CompuServe's rebate program is valid for a limited time on all HP Brio PC purchases.
