Homes passed. Interesting term which I saw the CEO of Covad cite recently, comparing his homes passed figures for DSLs to those of other media types.

How does one come to a 'homes passed' figure with DSL? Drop in a DSLAM into a CO which serves 450,000 residents, and then... what? Is this a consistent and legitimate metric to be used for comparison purposes between residential media alternatives?

How would this differ from cost per POP, or cost per installed user.. anyone? Marketecture is a wonderful thing.
