GREAT NOVELIST ARTHUR HAILEY SUPPORTS GATA'S RIGHT FLANK

Yesterday ..... I received the following message from one of the
great novelists of all time, Mr. Arthur Hailey. I found out he
is a Cafe member and a vocal GATA supporter.
"Following are copies of my contribution to GATA's right flank
in response to your e-mail earlier today (Sunday)."
Arthur Hailey has served his commentary at the Matisse Table.
It includes a letter to Chris Thompson, Chairman of Gold Fields Ltd.,
a letter to Barrick Gold, and a couple of pages related to gold from
his best selling novel, "THE MONEYCHANGERS."

"Disgusted with the excessive hedging (much of it concealed) by Barrick,
and the present opposition to allowing the gold price to rise to natural
and honest levels, I have sold our Barrick shares and am actively urging
others to do the same. I tell them: "You simply cannot trust these people
to put shareholder interest first, because quite clearly some at the top
are looking out solely for themselves." I continue, "So don't take a chance!
After selling Barrick, buy into those gold companies who haven't hedged,
or have only done so mildly. It's easy to find out which they are."
Chris Thompson, Gold Fields Ltd. Letter:
"This is a note of gratitude from this shareholder in gold companies,
and my wife, for your honorable attitude in supporting a free gold price,
and in particular your statement last Thursday about retrieving the hedge
position of Gold Fields."
"While writing, perhaps I may mention that in 1975 I wrote a novel,
The Moneychangers, which in part was supportive of gold, and the book
is to be republished next May or June. Anyway, recently while checking
an original English language copy (most of my books are in 40 languages)
I came across a portion which I take the liberty of enclosing as page 3."
