And Dell only sells low end computers, right?
The higher end computers Dell sells will most likely continue selling with larger amounts of memory than most.
So when Dell finally starts selling RDRAM based systems,
they can sell those with 32Mbytes or whatever they want, its not going to matter one bit because no one will be buying them anyway. I think most will look at the benchmarks and find a reasonably priced PC133 based system three times the memory for the same price will be the winner, and Dell will be the loser. There is little or no premium for 133Mhz sync with a front side bus speed of 133Mhz will perform quite well. Intel will lag coming out with this type of system and could hurt Dell in the short term, my opinion.
Dell's strategy should not be reducing memory but coming up with a alternative to RDRAM that can compete with new VIA based PC133 based systems. Also being 100% committed to Intel could hurt them depending on how it goes over the next couple of months with RDRAM, processors, etc.
Appreciate any thoughts, etc.
