"KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, 1999 OCT 18 (NB) -- By Martyn Williams, Newsbytes. Asia Internet Holding Co. Ltd. today signed an agreement that will see the company's A-Bone Asian Internet backbone connect with TMnet, the Internet unit of Telekom Malaysia.
The two organizations will link with a 45 megabit per second (Mbps) connection - the fastest A-Bone connection to date and one of the fastest of all intra-regional Internet links in Asia. The two expect to begin exchanging traffic in January 2000.
"The connection will allow TMnet's users to enjoy a more direct and faster access to other Asian nations connected to the A-Bone," said Abdul Majid Abdullah, acting chief operating officer of Telekom Multimedia, in a statement.
The A-Bone currently connects nine Asian nations via a hub at Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) [NASDAQ:IIJI] in Tokyo. Operators in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and China are linked to the network and also get connectivity through to the United States via IIJ. "
