AFC Signs Contract with SBC Operations, Inc.
PETALUMA, California, June 24, 1999 Advanced Fibre Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ; AFCI) announced today that it has signed an agreement with SBC Operations, Inc. ("SBC") to supply AFC's UMC1000© systems. SBC's domestic wireline operations include Pacific Bell, Nevada Bell, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and Southern New England Telecommunications. AFC, a leading provider of telecommunications access equipment for local independent phone carriers, will now be able to extend its flagship product's reach to an eight-state area covered by SBC.
The agreement with SBC is based on an amendment to an existing contract with Pacific Telesis under which AFC had previously deployed its UMC1000 systems to Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell. During the extensive evaluation process AFC trained the SBC user community on how best to utilize the UMC1000 for deployment.
Under the contract amendment, shipments to SBC are expected to begin immediately. The contract contains no contractual commitment regarding volumes of purchases. Additionally, AFC has met SBC's Supplier Diversity challenge and has developed a strategic business relationship with a Diversity supplier to meet SBC's business needs. This agreement signifies AFC's potential to expand its sales to larger carriers. |
