Sorry about the kinase/protease inhibitor mixup. My knowledge of
medical technology is sort of frozen in the mid 1980's because thats
when I got my BS in medical biology and was a technician in a medical
laboratory. These new exotic enzymes are a mystery to me. I spoke
with a graduate student from a virology laboratory the other day about
the mechansim of protease inhibition but found it hard to understand
the exact nature of how these things work.

The main problem with finding a "silver bullet" that will destroy or
inactivate the HIV virus is that this retrovirus has an enormous
potential for mutation. The human immune system has powerful anti-
viral potential but HIV mutates at such a high rate that it tends to
evade the powerful immune response of the body. Even these kinase or
protease inhibitor drugs have a limited potential for stopping HIV as
the virus will eventually mutate around the bottle neck. Its been
estimated that in a healthy but infected human, there could be as many
as several billion new virions produced every day. Thats a lot of new
forms of infectious virus. How does this relate to PRLN? It seems
that the multipronged attack on HIV is the best response. If I was
infected and I wanted to live a long life I would:

1) Take immune boosting drugs such as Amgen's eurithropoitein (sp?).

2) Excercise everyday to circulate the immune fighting cells/blood.

3) Drink the protease/kinase inhibitor cocktails everyday.

It appears that an aggressive approach to the disease can save your.
What I would like to see is several over the counter products that
fullfill #3 in every store on the planet with Paracelsian's name on
it. This could be a $50.00 dollar stock in about 5 years if they get
on the ball. Of course, they could continue bumbling and let other
companies grab the gold. What is your opinion? Do you think that
PRLN has what it takes, or are their better companies suited to this
task?
