The annualized CPI is up 2.6% for the last 12 months. That's close to a 1% increase from the preceding 12 months. Add to it the fact that almost everyone agrees that the real estate component that uses rents has not been capturing the rapid rise in inflation in housing costs this year and the inflation picture has certainly deteriorated somewhat. Yet the Fed Funds rate is still .25% below where it was last year.
