What I don't understand is why an industry problem, major shortage of memory chips is being considered a DELL specific problem. CPQ, GW, IBM, SUNW, HP etc all share the same problem. Either manufacturers have to add the increased cost of memory to the price or eat it in margin reduction. Personally, I think Dell has the right idea, drop the 'preconfigured' amount of memory and, if the buyer wants more than he pays the spot market rate. Is the consensus the this is a short term phenonenon or will we be living in the $30's for awhile?
