Also, I mentioned a long time ago the "Face in the Crowd" syndrome. This was Elia Kazan's worst movie, with Andy Griffith and Patricia Neal. Since Democrats are "for the people", and Republicans represent business interests, it must be explained why the Republicans frequently win. The answer is by getting a television shill, a hick who will manipulate the masses for his paymasters, through the identification of the Republicans with homespun values. (This is all a farrago of Gramscian/Franfurt school nonesense). Reagan represented the real-life implementation of this plan, all the better because he was politician. Although not a hick, he evoked Hollywood glamour and homespun wisdom, and the rubes were mesmerized....
