EFNT- NEWS with COVAD!!!!!
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--Efficient Networks, Inc.,
(Nasdaq: EFNT.O) a leading supplier of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
customer premises equipment (CPE), today announced that Covad
Communications (Nasdaq: COVD.O), the leading national broadband services
provider, is using Efficient's SpeedStream 5250 Digital Subscriber
Line (DSL) LAN modem as the CPE device for use with Covad's
TeleSurfer(sm) residential DSL service.

Efficient's 5250 external DSL LAN modem enables users of the
TeleSurfer service to enjoy the fastest, easiest way to access the
Internet from home. Covad's TeleSurfer service provides telecommuters
and consumers in residential locations with DSL access speeds up to 25
times faster than a standard 28.8 Kbps modem connection.
"Our ISP customers offering the Covad TeleSurfer service have
already had positive feedback from their subscribers using Efficient's
SpeedStream 5250 modems," said Dan Estabrook, senior product manager
for the TeleSurfer service at Covad. "Efficient Networks has achieved
an impressive position in the industry with its focus on delivering
simple, easy to use DSL CPE, and we are delighted to provide their
SpeedStream 5250 to our ISPs offering the TeleSurfer service."
"Efficient Networks is the ease-of-use leader in DSL CPE," said
Phil Young, president and chairman of Internet Connect, a leading
provider of DSL service nationwide and a Covad ISP. "What also makes
Efficient's SpeedStream 5250 stand out is its traffic shaping
software, which allows us to build in quality of service capabilities
for handling a variety of multimedia traffic, including
graphic-intensive web pages, streaming audio and video, and email with
huge attachments. This assures our subscribers have a highly reliable,
fast DSL connection tailored to their specific needs."
The SpeedStream 5250 LAN modem easily connects to the Ethernet
port on a personal computer, laptop or workstation and requires no
setup or configuration procedure, making it ideal for the TeleSurfer
service. The SpeedStream 5250 is ideally suited for users who require
high-speed DSL access without the complexity of a router. Designed for
small office and residential users, it serves high-bandwidth
applications like telecommuting, interactive gaming, and high-speed
Internet access.

About the TeleSurfer service

TeleSurfer DSL service offers privacy, security, reliability and
speeds of 384 or 768 kilobits per second. The service is sold to
selected ISPs for a flat-rate monthly price, and delivers speeds up to
25 times faster than the 28.8 kilobit dial-up connections typically
used in American homes. The TeleSurfer service is available nationwide
in 51 of the top metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) across the US.
