Wouldn't you think the 820 and 840 teams would compare notes?

Why would the better team be put on the less profitable project (840 has 1/10 the market of 820)?

Thanks. Yes, I understand your good engineer/bad engineer scenario and it sounds very plausible, even necessary, to explain these #####-ups. I was thinking that Samsung was such a great memory company, they wouldn't have succumbed. But then, Intel did, so why not them?

Granted Micron didn't commit their computers to Rambus, but they did say they were making a major RDRAM initiative. Could this have been mere lip-service?

I really appreciate your understanding of internal corporate psychology/mechanisms. You tell the story well.
