Hello LKO - regarding the Pakistan situation, it borders on facts are stranger than fiction. I was watching the News Hour last week, one commentator pointed out [and he wasn't disproofed] there were only 17% of all eligible voters voted in the last election and much of the votes were bought right at the voting stations. So, this probably qualifies the orwellian pig and farmer interchangeability.

I think most outsiders simply take a pragmatic approach to see whether the PM or the General did the least damage. And the General smartly obliged by recalling the troops from the front line.

The question is then, is a democracy still a good thing if the population is incited to wage external wars and even risk an atomic exchange? Or is military regime acceptable under certain circumstance for the greater good? Obviously, this is rhetorical questions. The debate has been around for millenia. Some may say it is the principle that counts, even if innocent is in the path. Some may prefer situational ethics.

best, Bosco
