I have asked my kids to just throw them OUTSIDE the laundry room door- since this means they can drop things off the upstairs landing (right above the hall which opens onto the laundry room) they do this- because ordinarily they are NOT allowed to throw things off the stairs. Everything has to be made fun or interesting or they will only do it under much duress. I HATE that- I wash their dishes and clothes every day, and clean the nasty bathrooms and clean the messy kitchen (how DO they get so much food on the floor?)- and I don't find any of that interesting or fun.
