You tickle one of my pet peeves. There have been several movies and a few "science documentary" shows lavishing their attention on an asteroid strike. Sort of a planetary bug-on-windshield event. "Big sucker. Pink inside." But all of them have absolutely PUNTED the special effects of a really juicy asteroid strike. Maaaan, if I had real money, I'd assemble a studio and animate more realistic asteroid strikes. Before, during, after, after that.
Then I'd film a Niven book. "Footfall" would make a GREAT movie - if you keep that hamfisted jerk who ruined "Armageddon" away from it. Harrrrrumph.
Filming an asteroid strike from earth orbit would be soooo cooool. Like those films of high-yield thermonuke tests on Jarlsberg Island, or wherever.
