assume from this article that the vod-mann partnerships are majority owned by mann? it seems that way if vod would lose coverage in europe if the partnerships dissolved.

Germany and Italy operations are majority owned by Mannesmann; the France operation is evenly divided on a proportionate basis (about 20% stake each).

Vodafone is not giving up any of its stakes in these three countries anytime soon. They are partial owners in two out of three highly profitable ventures (Germany and Italy). Mannesmann needs Vodafone more than Vodafone needs Mannesmann but Mannesmann telecom is highly desired by Vodafone.

Conclusion: Look for a Vodafone bid for Mannesmann, hostile bid or not, in the next few days.

P.S. Please feel free to throw this back in my face if this turns out not to be the case.<g>
