The drop in S/Cs today is really a blessing. Macroscopically, the S/C industry in in the first of a three-year bull run. All S/C stocks will be up over the next 18 months. Along the way, we'll witness several factors that will temporarily drive down the stock prices. Among those factors are:

1. PC analyst battles. These guys seem to forget that Q4 is always a good quarter for the box builders and hence, for S/C consumption. The volatility of the PC stocks creates volatility for the S/C stocks. Take advantage of it.

2. Memory demand doesn't grow linearly. It grows in fits and starts. Supply grows more linearly. At any moment, demand and supply are changing relative to each other. This forces prices up and down. Take advantage of it.

3. Semiconductor analysts will never agree on the near-term prospects of any company. The timing of their reports and the degree to which their reports get air-time will create volatility among S/C stock prices. Take advantage of it.

4. The downtrodden semiconductor industry of '96, '97 & '98 forced S/C companies to under-invest. There hasn't been such a long period of under-investment in the history of the industry. It will take three years of "over-investment," '99, '00 & '01 for the industry to catch up. Hence, prices will allow Cypress and others to grow profits and probably achieve record profits before the end of this cycle. Take advantage of it.
