You've been telling us that Newbridge would get a chunk of the SBC contract, but it looks like Alcatel got the lion's share and there's only crumbs left for other suppliers like Newbridge.

This contract is primarily for DSL and I've never indicated NN would get a "chunk." I've known since mid 1996 that this was Alcatel's. In this space I'm hoping NN will get a portion of any advanced upgrades --- those enabling TV over copper. If you listened to SBC's CC you know they're planning to announce those contracts later.

NN already has a $300 million SBC contract and with SBC's merger with Ameritech and yesterday's DSL initiative they'll need even more network upgrades. Do I think NN will get a "chunk" of these? Yes.

Incidentally, Alcatel didn't announce what portion of the $6 million it claims. If it were as much as the NYT suggests, I suspect they'd have it in bold-face headlines.

Regards,

Pat
