Thanks for your expert's opinion. I have been (as has my sister) in a special play/learning group together with retarded and mind-handicapped children (later: youths) when I was young. My fear for the parents' attitude was mainly directed on a more recent tendency of overplaying concerns and isolating the issue; they have both always been the kind that is VERY much engaged with their jobs.
Maybe organizational embedding would be just the right thing, as those efforts tend to focus on practical issues first, thereby alleviating efforts to find a solid mind frame for the situation of the family, or those others that care. But how could I talk anybody into taking an interest in something like that? (no question to answer, but what I ask myself now).

What you said about the hopes for the future is of course right, as my niece is not yet two years old; also intelligence is very high in both parents and her sister - if that is in any way helpful for the younger one, there are surely the best conditions from that side.

Thanks again MNI.
