NAMPA, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--

Company to Invest $210 Million in FY2000 for E-Services
Infrastructure and Introduction of "micronpc.com" Brand

Businesseses, Government Organizations to Receive
Web Hosting, E-Commerce, Connectivity, or
Hardware/Hardware Management on Single Monthly Bill

Paving the way for businesses in the Internet age, Micron Electronics, Inc. www.businesswire.com (Nasdaq:MUEI) announced it will invest approximately $210 million in fiscal year 2000 to further develop its e-services business -- enabling the delivery of a new, total computing solution, called "Subscription Computing."
Subscription Computing, geared primarily for small and mid-sized businesses of less than 2,500 employees and government organizations, is designed around four core computing pillars: Web hosting, e-commerce, connectivity, and computer hardware and desktop management.
Subscription Computing, or "computing on demand," allows CIOs and technology managers to choose from an extensive menu of e-services and hardware products and services, upgrading the "subscriptions" as they grow their businesses. The company will deliver the personalized computing solutions on a single monthly bill.
"We are leveraging the scale and capabilities of a leading, direct PC manufacturer to deliver the next-generation capabilities of a business-to-business e-services company," said Joel Kocher, chairman and CEO of Micron Electronics. "Subscription Computing offers customers the flexibility to choose the services they want, when they want them, and receive it all on one monthly bill."
The subscription service allows growth companies to develop customized, scalable technology infrastructures without getting locked into expensive, soon-to-be-obsolete products and services. Benefits include:

-- One monthly bill and single source for computing needs. Customers can receive all of their computing needs -- from Web hosting to e-commerce to hardware -- on one monthly bill, enabling them to more accurately manage computer- and Internet-related expenditures and suppliers.
-- Per seat, per user computing configurations. CIOs, technology managers and business managers can customize computing solutions by office, department or employee. Customers also can "dial-up" or "dial-down" computing capabilities as needed.
-- All in one NetNow Web access and commerce solution. The company is introducing NetNow, an appliance server-based subscription service that allows customers to access the Internet and establish Web site and e-commerce capabilities. "NetNow Connect" includes a multi-function appliance server that provides e-mail, remote Web hosting, Internet access, full-office digital subscriber line (DSL) connectivity and technical support for the life of the hardware. "NetNow Commerce" includes the multi-function appliance server and full-office DSL connectivity, plus award-winning e-commerce tools.
-- Hardware standing the test of Internet time. Subscribers can receive one-, two- or three-year hardware upgrades to ensure that their computer equipment evolves with their businesses.

"We are committed to Web hosting as a core business," said Kocher. "Through our recent acquisitions, we now are able to present our customers with their first opportunity to receive all Internet and computing tools from a single source. We already have registered more than 45,000 subscribers to our e-commerce, hosting and connectivity services."

Web Hosting at the Core

Web hosting is a central component of the Subscription Computing offering. The U.S. Web hosting market is expected to reach $40 billion by 2005, according to Forrester Research.
To bolster its hosting capabilities, the company last quarter acquired NetLimited, Inc., dba, HostPro -- a leading Web and applications hosting provider that boasts subscriber growth of more than 10 percent a month, making it one of the fastest growing providers of Web-hosting services. HostPro was rated the "World's Number One Hosting Company" by independent authority HostIndex.com, based on its innovative Web hosting and e-commerce solutions and capabilities.
HostPro offers secure e-commerce and content solutions for a range of customers -- from the novice "e-tailer" to the sophisticated e-business owner. Its NetStore, NetExecutive, ShopSite Manager and ShopSite Pro e-commerce bundles provide front-office solutions -- such as e-commerce templates, shopping carts and credit-card authorization -- as well as critical back-office applications -- such as customer tracking and inventory control.
Additionally, the company acquired the assets of Micron Internet Services (MIS) -- a provider of dedicated and dial-up Internet access, virtual private network (VPN) solutions and e-commerce services to small and medium-sized businesses and public organizations nationwide. MIS, a Cisco-powered Internet service provider (ISP), is rated among the world's top 1 percent of ISPs for reliability and quality.

"Brand" New Market Focus

The company will launch tomorrow a national multi-million dollar advertising campaign -- entitled "Think Beyond the Box" -- which also introduces its new brand, "micronpc.com." The campaign -- which includes print, radio, TV and outdoor components -- is the single largest advertising push in the company's history.
