Observations re: Dell and Intel.

Dell stated that their earnings may falter due to chip shortages.
My interpretation - chip production is maxed out and the Taiwan situation has emphasized this. Add to this the lack of semi-equip investment the past couple of years and Motorola's announcement regarding actual 300mm production. Result = the industry is behind the power curve and must provide more and better capacity. You have to pay to play. Looks good for Cymer.

Concerns regarding Intel are a) chip sales are trending toward the lower end with lower margins and b) AMD may make inroads into the higher-end chips. My interpretation - the issues facing Intel will force the industry to focus even more on productivity and the "first-to-market" competitive edge. Again, looks good for Cymer.

Investors appear to be looking at the impact on the "end markets" and are "throwing the baby out with the bath water." It will be interesting to see what our earnings and stock price contest entries are six months from now when we are anticipating Q1 00 results.
